Husqvarna Chainsaw

Husqvarna Chainsaw

Someone gave me a Husqvarna Chainsaw.  They didn’t know if it worked or not, but they just needed it gone.  I’m one to never turn down something like that.  All the parts were there and the motor wasn’t seized, so it came home with me.  It sat around for a couple of weeks while I worked on other things, but eventually I got to looking at it.  I didn’t try to start it right away, but I wanted to make…

5hp Craftsman Chipper-Shredder

5hp Craftsman Chipper-Shredder

We found this Chipper-Shredder on  Craigslist for $100, but again, it was dead.  The engine had low compression and wouldn’t even try to turn over.  It didn’t take long to find the problems though. Low compression was just from some loose head bolts, but I figured since they were loose, the head gasket probably needed replaced too.  After fixing that, it would start on starting fluid but wouldn’t run on fuel. Disassembled the carb and found the fuel float valve…

Dynamark Rototiller 5hp

Dynamark Rototiller 5hp

We picked up this Dynamark Rototiller at a nearby yard sale for $35.  The guy selling it knew it was dead, but the engine pulled smoothly and had good compression.  It wasn’t missing any parts, so we bought it and wheeled it home. It didn’t take too long to actually get the engine running.  The carb needed cleaned up, the head bolts tightened, and the spark plug cleaned.  I also found that someone had stacked a second carb gasket on…

1987 Evinrude 4hp Deluxe Part 2

1987 Evinrude 4hp Deluxe Part 2

We spent a little time adjusting the idle speed on this Evinrude Outboard and resetting the throttle to what appeared to be the correct position.  Runs better, but something still wasn’t quite right with it.  The water in the drum was starting to get milky, a sign that there’s oil in the water. We did take it out to the lake before we checked the oil in the lower unit.  That was probably a bad idea, but at least there…

1987 Evinrude 4hp Deluxe Part 1

1987 Evinrude 4hp Deluxe Part 1

We bought this Evinrude outboard off of Craigslist for $100 knowing that it didn’t run.  Before we bought it, I tested it for compression and it seemed good, and it pulled smoothly but it had no spark. After getting it home, we started looking into the potential problems.  Right off the bat we ordered a new CDI module to replace the original one installed.  We also made new ignition wires, cleaned out the fuel pump and gave the carb a…

Gas to LP Generator Conversion

Gas to LP Generator Conversion

We got this generator shortly after we got our house, mostly to keep the sump pumps running in rainy weather since we do have a tendency to get some water in the basement.  What I didn’t like about it was that it was gas, we all know the problems of trying to store gas for long periods of time.  I converted this unit over the propane before LP fueled generators became popular on the market.  We prefer LP over gas…
