Finishing the Wifi Garage Door Project

Finishing the Wifi Garage Door Project

Finished up the Wifi Garage Door project today.  When I posted yesterday about the Garage Controller I wasn’t sure when the relay boards were going to arrive, and sure enough they showed up in the afternoon mail.  After I got them, I had a thought on using the fourth button on in the other box that was wired to a relay but had no purpose.  A little bit of reprogramming and that button will now open the attached garage.

The programming was rather simple, when the button is pressed, it sends a “4” over to the Wifi board.  The Wifi board then updates the JSON file that is being monitored by the Attached Garage board.  When the Attached Garage board sees the change it fires the relay and then updates the JSON file again.  A rather simple process overall.

The featured image above has the relay boards that I’m using, but I’m not using their code, obviously.  Many thanks to this blog post, that gave me the code needed to fire the relay.  I really like these relay boards, they’re easy to work with, and they don’t fire the relay when they power up.  Instead they use a serial communication to fire it.

I have 4 more of these relay boards and boxes, now I just need to figure out something to do with them.

  1. Thanks, this is something that I’ve been wanting to do for years. With the Arduino project and all the other stuff that came out with it, it made it fairly easy to do. I have a few more IoT projects planned.
